Welcome to Firestick User Guide Blog

Welcome to my new blog Firestick User Guide.  The goal of this guide is to provide help and support to people who are either installing or using the Amazon Firestick. While the Amazon Firestick is a great device it can cause many different problems to people because of the many different types of televisions that are used to connect it to. Different televisions have different video and audio formats that may cause the Firestick to malfunction. Thankfully there are many adapters and other devices that may be purchased right on Amazon to solve any issues with your Firestick.  Users may also encounter issues with the remote control, connecting WiFi and using bluetooth. All of these issues will be covered in this guide.

I purchased a refurbished firestick in the middle of November 2019. Right away I encountered many problems that prevented me from even installing the firestick. It would take me nearly two months to get my firestick fully functioning as intended.
After unboxing my firestick and connecting the firestick to the included extender and then to my HDMI port I powered up using the including USB cable and power adapter. The extender is used to provide separation between the HDMI port and the firestick in televisions that don't provide a lot of space near the HDMI port on your television. It is not intended to extend(improve) the WiFi signal it is receiving.

Problem 1. After powering up the screen I see says invalid mode. This message is frozen on my screen. A quick internet search says that invalid mode has something to do with the resolution of the firestick being incorrectly set.  The display mode on my television says that my current resolution is 0:0. I tried several short cut tricks with the remote to change resolution and even reset firestick to factory defaults but still the invalid message kept reappearing. The firestick remote can  perform several functions by pressing a different combination of keys(more on this later).

Problem 2. After powering up my computer several times I saw that if I waited a while most of the time the invalid screen would disappear. The first time the Firestick welcome screen finally appeared I selected my language(English) then attempted to put in my Wifi log in details. In the middle of typing in my details my remote froze. In fact my remote was working choppily from the start. I tested out the batteries that came with the device with my battery tester and they tested out okay. So problem number 2 was the barely responsive remote control. The remote was so bad that I could not complete entering my log in details so that I could complete the Firestick installation.
